Research you can do

If you are interested in helping do some of the legwork on researching fixtures and finishes for your home, here is a list of items that you may want to look at. It is never too early to start!

Windows and doors:

These are costly items that have a big impact on the overall look of a project. Make sure to go to a showroom where you can open and close units to get a sense of the feel as well as the look.

Kitchen Cabinets:

The long lead time between ordering and delivery for cabinets often makes this one of the first choices you will have to make. Visit a range of showrooms to determine what style appeals to you and find a price point you are comfortable with. Once the base plans are done you can go back and have them lay out the specific cabinets and interior features.

Sinks and faucets:

Most people are amazed at the range of cost in items like faucets. Look around and find ones that you like. If your budget doesn't allow for the top of the line across the board, you might want to pick out one for the kitchen and master that you love, and then go with simpler fixtures in other areas.

Appliances:

Again these are big ticket items with a wide range of prices. Some showrooms for high end products actually are set up so that you can go and cook on the stoves! Remember to look for energy efficient options!

Lighting fixtures:

It is good to take a look around to find out what appeals to you. Make a file of fixtures that you like so that when the contractor is ready to buy them, you can have the answers at your fingertip!

Tile:

There are many different options for tiles it is good to take time to just visit a number of showrooms and get a sense of what you like. For complex tile patterns it is often a good idea to draw up an interior elevation to make sure you know what you are getting before it is grouted to the wall.

Colors:

Some people love choosing colors and others really don't. Draudt Design is happy to work with your selections or to provide a palette that we can refine together.
